10 winter-themed drawing Ideas
The holiday season is coming to an end. While December fills me with creative energy and many drawing ideas, I often find it harder to find inspiration during the dark days of January. How about you?
To be creative in the colder and darker months can be hard. The anticipation for the holiday season is gone, and here in Norway we can look forward to at least two, most likely three cold and dark months. I know I feel better when I set aside some time to draw, but sometimes it is hard to start when you just want to cuddle up under a blanket and wait for summer to arrive. If you also struggle, read on!
Look at nature (it’s important to get outside during the dark months)—the light and frosty landscapes are magical in winter. If we’re lucky, we also get some snowy weather, and a forest covered in snow is beautiful!
Experiment with winter-themed colors. Try using cool blues, whites, and purples, with warm accents like reds and yellows.
Set up a cozy creative space and surround your workspace with things that bring you joy—like candles, a plant, fairy lights, or even a small bowl of candy. And don’t forget to bring a cup of your favorite hot drink!
Take part in art challenges on social media or with friends. Maybe now is the time to explore a new medium or learn something new? I’ve been diving into everything about Procreate Dreams lately, trying to learn how to create simple animations.
Make some winter-themed sketches (I’ve listed 10 suggestions further down).
Stay inspired with others, and join a co-working sessions on Substack. Or you can find inspirational illustrators on YouTube. I enjoy following Lisa Bardot for tips and inspiration.
